Why did people settle in the region of the world now called Mesopotamia? We will be learning about that soon.
Before we learn about them, share why your family settled in Fresno.
The Ullners moved here waaaaaay back before there were cell phones because Mr. Ullner, rather Lt Ullner, had earned a promotion. The headquarters were located in Fresno. So we trekked from the foggy bay area to hot valley.
What is YOUR family's settlement story?
My great grandfather was a doctor and had just finished his training in proctology. He and my great grandmother took out a map of California to find a place where they needed a doctor with this specialty. After looking all over California, they picked Fresno. And that's why we all live here.

ReplyDeleteMy family decided to move to Fresno because, my dad's pastoring job in Canada ended and he got a job opening to be a pastor at a church in Fresno. Also, my mom and dad felt like God was calling them to the church.
ReplyDeleteMy mom and dad were both raised in Fresno. My mom's parents moved to Fresno after they got married, because my grandma was going to help her aunt take care of her grandmother, and also because it was easier to buy a house in Fresno than in Santa Barbara. My dad's grandparents moved to Fresno in order to go to college here.

ReplyDelete"Why do we live in Fresno?", I asked my mom. Her response was that she wanted to live by her parents. She told me they moved her because of jobs. Once my grandfather got a job as a pharmacist it was off to Fresno!

My family and I lived in Madera Ranchos, CA. but my dad had his business in Fresno, so he had to drive back and forth everyday. My dad got tired of it, so two years ago we bought a house here because it is closer to his business. That is the reason we live in Fresno, CA.
ReplyDeleteMy mom and dad have very different reasons for moving to Fresno.my my has lived there all her life, so has my grandma, so has her grandma, etc. but my grandpa originally lived in Nebraska, then moved to Lodi, ca. Then he moved to Fresno. My dad has always worked in produce, and got his first job in sacramento. In the 1990s, a friend of his offered him a job in Selma, which is a half of an hour away from Fresno, so he moved there. He met my mom, and so I have live my whole life in Fresno. That's how my parents came to be in Fresno.

ReplyDeleteMy parents came to Fresno for various reasons. My dad came because he was born here, hewanted to work close to his parents and siblings, help with a family business, and live in a nice house close to where he worked (he lived in LA at the time.) My mom came because Dad came, pretty much. So my siblings and I have lived in Fresno our entire life.
ReplyDeleteWhy come to Fresno?
ReplyDeleteDad~ My dad came here because his dad got transferred for work (work= Valley Nitrogen Producers) from Savannah, Georgia to Fresno, California.
Mom~ My mom was born here..... We don't know much about her real family because she was adopted. Though I do know that her (adopted) parents were born and raised here.
I've lived in Fresno my whole life in a house right next door to my Grandma's (my dad's mom) with my family.
The Byers and the Lawsons both moved to Fresno way back when. The Lawson father got a promotion that led him to Fresno with his wife and children. Mr. Tim Byers went to school at Fresno State where he met Ms. Millicent Lawson soon to be Mrs. Millicent Byers. The Lawson mother and daughter and Mr. Tim Byers are all still in Fresno today.
